Life Insurance for Seniors -- It's Not All You Need!

Being a senior citizen is tough.  After all, you're trying to survive on a fixed income after decades of hard work.  The last thing you want is to add more expenses to the list, but you're doing yourself a real disservice if you don't have these 3 types of insurance:

  1.  Life insurance

Lots of people believe that buying life insurance for seniors is enough -- but if this is the only kind of protection you've got, you're putting yourself at more financial risk than you need to!  And what's worse is that many senior citizens are giving up their life insurance policies altogether, simply because they can't afford the premiums.

The solution is buying special life insurance for seniors.  There are senior-only policies out there that can give you the coverage you need, without charging you an arm and a leg.  Since these policies were created specifically for seniors, they're designed to fit into smaller budgets.

  2.  Medigap health insurance

Think you can count on Medicare to take care of all your health needs?  Think again!  The basic Medicare coverage doesn't cover a whole lot.  Plus, it comes with low limits that don't take much to reach.  Once you reach those limits -- or find yourself in a situation that's not covered by Medicare -- you're on your own.

If you want to avoid the financial nightmare that can come with footing your own medical bills, you need some kind of Medigap health insurance.  Like the name suggests, it covers the "gaps" in your basic Medicare coverage.  You'll have to buy it from a private insurance company, so it's an extra expense, but the monthly premiums will be well worth it when and if you need some help with your medical bills!

Another name for Medigap health insurance is Medicare Supplemental Insurance, so if you hear the two terms used interchangeably, don't panic.  Whether you buy Medicare Supplemental Insurance in Florida, California, or Wisconsin, it works the same way -- by covering things that basic Medicare doesn't.

Depending on where you live, you can get great rates on supplemental coverage.  In fact, Medicare Supplemental Insurance in Florida is some of the most affordable -- simply because of all the competition there.

  3.  Burial insurance

The last thing you want to think about is having your loved ones bury you, but you certainly don't want your funeral to create a financial hardship!  Burial insurance can be used to cover your final expenses, and -- best of all -- it's typically included in a quality life insurance policy.

Even if you can't afford pricier life insurance, at least look into getting some type of inexpensive burial insurance.  Your loved ones will thank you for it!
